The leading edge of care

The Discovery CT750 HD offers both high image quality and multiple dose reduction features on one platform. ASiR* (Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction) dose reduction technology: A reconstruction technology that may enable reduction in pixel noise standard deviation. The ASiR reconstruction algorithm may allow for reduced mA in the acquisition of diagnostic images, thereby reducing the dose required1. And with high-definition image quality across anatomies — the Discovery CT750 HD can reach any part of the body of virtually any patient, and perform both generalized and specialized clinical applications, including:

  • Gemstone* Spectral Imaging – the first quantitative dual-energy CT on the market.
  • Cardiac imaging – highest spatial resolution in the industry at 18.2 lp/cm2.
  • Neuro imaging – the Discovery CT750 HD ensures ample coverage to perform perfusion studies of the entire brain.

1. In clinical practice, the use of ASiR and Veo* may reduce CT patient dose depending on the clinical task, patient size, anatomical location and clinical practice. A consultation with a radiologist and a physicist should be made to determine the appropriate dose to obtain diagnostic image quality for the particular clinical task.

Clarity without compromise.

You and your patients continue to demand lower dose — but not at the expense of diagnostic image quality. The Discovery CT750HD delivers on both imperatives with a number of clinical benefits:

Low dose made possible by ASiR

Through an algorithmic image reconstruction process known as ASiR* (Advanced Statistical iterative Reconstruction), the Discovery CT750HD provides exceptional image quality. It may improve low contrast detectability (LCD),1,2 allow for reduced noise,3 and reduce artifacts—all without degrading anatomical integrity. ASiR overcomes the limitations of the conventional CT reconstruction approach known as filtered back projection, arriving at an optimal image using an advanced iterative computation. This computation may dramatically reduce the amount of dose needed to acquire a high-performance image.

The highest resolution in cardiac CT

The Discovery CT750HD has the highest available Cardiac CT spatial resolution. At 18.2 lp/cm,4 the system provides up to 66% greater spatial resolution than comparable systems. SnapShot Pulse and ASiR enablelow dose not only for Coronary CT but also across cardiovascular exams, enabling cardiac CT of less than 1mSv. Intelligent system design helps to manage high and unstable heart rates in prospective and retrospective modes.

The first quantitative dual-energy CT on the market

Gemstone* Spectral Imaging (GSI) is a unique dual energy technique that uses rapid kV switching and Gemstone Detector technology to acquire and generate material density data. This data enables clinicians to identify the chemical composition of body materials, and aids in the characterization of pathology. At temporal registration speeds of up to 165 times faster than the nearest competitor, GSI is the first quantitative dual energy on the market utilizing a 50cm FOV. Individual spectral images can be derived from 101 user-selectable energy levels. This approach enables GSI to review different levels of monochromatic energy levels for better iodine conspicuity, image contrast optimization, accurate CT numbers and up to a 50% reduction in common beam hardening artifacts — features that together aid in a fast, confident diagnosis.

Greater coverage makes advanced techniques possible

The Discovery CT750HD has features that enable the performance of advanced diagnostic techniques. VolumeShuttle is a feature that offers acquisition coverage of 80mm. As a result, clinicians can perform CT perfusion in a single scan, with a single contrast injection. Volume Helical Shuttle is a continuous bi-directional scan mode that extends z-coverage and improves temporal sampling. The result is more than 300mm of high-resolution volume coverage, equivalent to a 500-slice image, and the ability to perform 4D-CTA studies.

1. In clinical practice, the use of ASiR may reduce CT patient dose depending on the clinical task, patient size, anatomical location and clinical practice. A consultation with a radiologist and a physicist should be made to determine the appropriate dose to obtain diagnostic image quality for the particular clinical task. ASiR dose reduction was measured on a standard 20cm water phantom. The test involved maintaining constant pixel standard deviation as the mA was reduced at 120 kV.

2. LCD was measured using the Statistical LCD technique, which is based on an analysis of the pixel standard deviation on the uniform section of the CatPhan (R) 600 phantom. The improvement is demonstrated at 120kVp, when comparing ASiR images acquired with 40% lower mAs to full dose FBP images.

3. Noise measured as Pixel Noise Standard Deviation.

Leading-edge technology throughout the image chain.

Leading edge clarity requires innovation throughout the image chain — and across every variable of image development. With technologies and features that set new benchmarks for image clarity, high-definition CT opens the door to new noninvasive diagnostic procedures and innovative techniques for challenging conditions.

The Gemstone Detector

Gemstone* is the essential innovation that drives the high definition breakthrough. Comprised of our proprietary CT scintillator material, the Gemstone is the first new detector material in 20 years. Its exclusive garnet structure enables high-definition imaging during sub-second scanning and fast kV switching. Gemstone’s recovery time is four times faster than comparable detectors, and its primary speed is 100 times faster than competitors’.

The Data Acquisition System

GE Healthcare’s Volara* DAS technology reduces electronic noise for outstanding image quality in both high- and low-signal areas of the anatomy. It’s also an integral part of the system’s improved spatial resolution across the entire field of view, and delivers 2.5 times more views per rotation to improve x and y axis resolution, and reduce artifacts.

The Tube

The Performix* HD Tube enables the visualization of more detail with increased data sampling, ultra-fast kVp switching, and a maximum mA of up to 570mA on the small focal spot and 835mA on the large focal spot.

The Reconstruction

Enabling imaging under 1 mSv with profound clarity, the Discovery CT750HD features the ultimate advance in CT image reconstruction  technology: Veo* the world’s first model-based iterative reconstruction product, which combines sophisticated algorithms with advanced computing power. Lower noise and higher resolution can be achieved within a single image. At the same time, significant dose reduction capabilities are now available, opening up new possibilities for challenging cases and sensitive patients. This breakthrough is changing the way physicians use CT imaging, delivering a combination of high-performance images and low dose that was previously unthinkable.
